Claytonâs raging hard-on was interfering with his ability to think straight. It probably had something to do with diverted blood flow. Was she into role play? Who did she want him to be?
âUh, Clayton. You havenât forgotten, have you? Or did you want me to be someone else?â A sudden onset of bitterness had him pulling away from her even though his throbbing dick lodged a complaint.
Did she want him to pretend because she didnât like the real him? The messy and complicated him?
âHuh?â She blinked up at him, her hair sexily tousled and her breasts⦠Good God, she had beautiful breasts. On second thought, if she took her bra off, he would be whoever she wanted him to be. âYou asked who I was.â
âNo, I didnât. Did you think I had forgotten who I was making out with? I asked, who is this?â She poked him over his heart.
He finally cottoned on to what she meant. It was not the discussion he wanted to have at the moment. In fact, he didnât want to speak at all. He wanted to strip her naked and explore every inch of her body before he pushed inside her. His dick jumped at the thought. Would he even last that long?
It was clear by her tone there was no avoiding an answer. If their date had been all conversation over dinner, he would have mentioned Evie before things got heated. He blew out a slow breath, preparing himself.
A knock sounded on the door to the outside. The puppy woke and howled. Neither of them moved. The knock sounded again along with a muffled voice. âHey, Maggie! Got your pizza.â
âShoot. I totally forgot about the pizza.â Maggie sat up and looked around, presumably for a shirt.
âIâll get the pizza, you get the puppy.â He padded down the stairs and opened the door to a teenager still in the throes of battling acne.
The boyâs eyes widened. âThis is for Maggie. Is she here?â
âWhat do I owe you?â Clayton reached for the box, but the boy didnât let go.
âShe paid already. Is she⦠okay?â The boy shifted to try to see up the stairs over Claytonâs shoulder.
Frustration oozed through the urge to laugh. Considering Clayton was half a foot taller and twice as broad, the kid had some balls. But how could Clayton get upset with anyone who wanted to protect Maggie?
Clayton called up the stairs. âMaggie, this kid wonât hand over the pizza without proof of life.â
She popped out of the shadows, tucking her messy hair behind her ears, wearing his T-shirt and juggling the puppy. âHey, Scott. Weâre good. Just⦠hungry.â
The slight pause sent a blush racing to the boyâs cheeks. âYeah. Okay. Got it. Hereâs your pizza.â
The boy shoved the box at Clayton and took off across the lawn to his idling car sitting at the curb.
Clayton ushered Maggie back inside and flipped a light on in her kitchen. The puppy sniffed the air and wagged his tail, squirming against Maggie until she laughed and set him on the floor.
